When you set the gutter shadow correction setting in the preview image the result will be reflected. Not the dark gutter. Gutter shadow correction corrects shadows that appear between pages when scanning open booklets. Changing the gutter shadow correction setting after an image has been previewed and displayed in the preview area will immediately reflect the result to the preview image.

This built in correction removes the shadow typically seen when scanning a page from a book.
